NEURA Robotics teams up with E.ON and enviaM to bring robots into power grid operations
The partnership will programme the robots for tasks such as inspections and other duties on the grid in Munich before testing the applications on MITNETZ STROM, where the first practical experience is expected to take place in 2027.

NEURA Robotics has announced a collaboration with energy companies E.ON and enviaM to implement robotic solutions in the electricity network operations such as asset inspection, and to carry out support and inspections for work that is dangerous and/or physically demanding for humans.
The partners will first develop and test robotic skills under controlled conditions at TUM RoboGym powered by NEURA in Munich. MITNETZ STROM, the enviaM Group’s grid subsidiary and the project’s pilot partner, will then test initial applications in real-world grid operations
"We expect to gain first practical experience in 2027," said Stephan Lowis, CEO of the enviaM Group.
Current focus areas include, inspecting technical equipment, assessing the state of vital infrastructure such as substations and remaining on-site security. The partnership will explore how the technology could be used in dangerous areas.
E.ON, MITNETZ STROM and NEURA teams will determine the individual tasks, supported by the working knowledge and requirements from the grid operators. Robot training and software platform will be provided by NEURA through its NEURA Gym and Neuraverse platforms.
"Our people do challenging jobs that carry a lot of responsibility every day," Stephan Lowis said.
"Humanoid robots could provide assistance for specialists working on physically intensive jobs and those with specific safety needs, helping to free those specialists up to work on jobs that truly require their skill."
Within the scope of the cooperation, E.ON is also becoming a member of the TUM Robo Gym, a new innovative training and research centre at Lab Campus at Munich Airport, which NEURA and the Technical University of Munich founded in October 2026. The venue spans an area of over 2,300 square metres and brings together research, robot training and industrial use.
Training will draw on demonstrations by grid specialists, data collected as robots perform tasks and simulated scenarios. Motion capture, sensor-equipped suits and remote operation will help record workers’ actions. Skills developed through these methods will be validated on physical robots before field testing.
The Neuron AI model from NEURA integrates inputs data such as 3D vision, touch, sound, language and robot state which will enable robots to inspect items using a combination of different sensory inputs.
The partners can also leverage robots like NEURA's 4NE1 which will able to travel around humanoid facilities designed for humans. This is a planned capability rather than a confirmed deployment under the partnership.
Neuraverse will also link training to real-world application, so that skills can be tested and improved on trial. Those skills can then be shared across robots and locations with compatible hardware.
E.ON and enviaM will keep control over their data and trained expertise, and determine whether to make this available to third parties.
